There was a way my darling that you were

that caught upon me like a dream

and so I fell like grains of ocean sand

weighted down under this mirth this expanse

this flushed reminder of my own dreamings

that skip and wade into the light

but soft, what joy what hope what graceful hand

reached out gently to stroke away a curl

and made of an idiots reprimand

breathless safety on that warm summers day

and as the year will fade what was it then

that took me and made of all that I was a fool.

there was a way, my darling, that you were
