The little girl sat in the dirt in the back yard. She watched the dog play and drew picture in the dirt. Her mind was so new and innocent that it rarely wandered toward much more than the present moment. If there had been a witness they might have wondered at how thin and frail she was. \"Nothing but eyes and elbows\" her dad often told his friends. She was so absorbed in her own little world that she didn't notice her uncle coming up next to her. He was bleary eyed and high as he often was. She started when he chuckled behind her. She felt no fear, he was her uncle after all. He grabbed her arm and her eyes opened wide. She suddenly felt fear and tried to twist her arm out of his grip. Tears sprang to her eyes as she realized he was much to strong for her. Her brain tried to protect her by disconnecting as she smelled his alcohol and marijuana laden breath. She went limp as his hands tore at her shirt.

Ten years later the girl was filled out, way too filled out, she walked the halls of her middle school between classes. The school was full of students but it was as if she were all alone. She took a moment to look up from the ground and found herself looking in to a smiling face. His eyes were soft brown and he had a stocky build. She couldn't help but smile weakly at his toothy grin. He followed her around for days until she finally talked to him. After a few weeks he asked her to be his girlfriend and she accepted. One day as he walked her home from school he got brave and kissed her. She felt as if she wanted to run at his touch. She burst in to tears and ran home. After that she refused to speak to him again.

Another 3 years went by and although she did well in school she had started to drink behind her parents back. One day while skipping she got really drunk and passed out on a friends bed. When she woke she saw a blurry figure standing there. Her eyes focused on a smiling face. She tried to look away but it was too late. Her stomach did flip flops and her heart beat a million times all at once. He asked her to be his and she told him he already had her. When after a year of dating she found herself pregnant she felt happy and excited. After the baby was born he took her home to live with his parents and she got along well with them. She thought she found perfection, until the phone rang. The girl said she didn't know about her or the baby. She said she was never going to speak to him again then she hung up. The world fell out from beneath her feet as she stood there staring at the phone. Just then he walked in and she demanded an explanation. He slapped her face and pushed her down to the ground. She was so shocked she couldn't even lift a hand to defend herself. He told her he had been cheating on her the whole time and that he might love her if she lost the few pounds she had put on after the baby. When she went home she discovered that her older sister had been killed in an auto accident. she cried until she passed out. She felt such pain that she wasn't sure she could survive or even of she wanted to. She lay on the floor, crying so hard he couldn't form a coherent thought in her head. She prayed for an end, to never wake up again. But she had to think of her baby so she picked herself up and she faced the music. Although she had left him her heart wouldn't stop loving him and while years went by and he formed another family she never stopped loving him. She tried to be with other men on occasion, but it never went far. Years went by like this until she gave up. She wanted more children but it never happened. Her son grew up and married. She decided to give her love to her grandson. Twenty four years had passed since that day in the back yard. She still disliked being touched, she still loved her ex husband and she felt so lonely. Then \"He\" showed up. It was the bellyflops and million heartbeats all over again.
