Comprehension

Did it hurt at all?

Or was it a simple action?

How could you have the gall?

From what passion?

I don’t understand it.

How could a person do what you’ve done?

What parents in their right mind

Could abandon their son?

I was a baby.

Innocence epitomized.

What could I have done?

To be a victim of such a crime?

You were young and broke.

Yes I get that part of the lie.

But so was my grandmother.

Young, perhaps not but broke, you can’t deny.

Maybe she was just better off.

Or maybe you both were just lazy.

I’ll honestly never know.

And trying to find out will drive me crazy.

I’m writing this to say

I forgive you and love you both, dearly.

That much is the truth.

And I’ll never do to my child what you did to me.
