As I walk down this one-way street,

Seedlings sprout and birds sing sweet.

Along the way, I may trip and fall;

But as storms rage, the trees stand tall.

For what I missed, I don’t turn back,

A bird flies free- it does not lack.

My path grows familiar, my strides sure,

Rain clouds scatter; the sky turns clear.

I follow the steps of those who came before,

For it is by example that hatchlings learn to soar.

Long forgotten treasures now lay in the dust,

Flowers will fade, as all beauty must.

As I grow weary, my pace begins to slow,

The sunlight is replaced, by the moon’s soft glow.

In pitch darkness, I aimlessly roam,

Waiting for the light that would lead me home.
