A lament stemmed from learning Free Verse poetry while also taking an advanced grammar class

Grammar Games

A subject here

Will put a verb phrase here.

Add a comma,

  And don’t forget to punctuate.

A semi-colon marks one sentence

  From another sentence phrase;

They are important.

Oh! Don’t forget your interjections.

They add that much needed dramatic flair.

Never deviate from these rules—unless…

You are a poet.

Then, by all means

Split sentences

  In threes

Maybe even fours.

Don’t worry about adding commas in fact

  Forget to punctuate

There’s no such thing as too long, so

  Ramble a sentence

On,

And on,

And on,

And on

Because the rules

  They don’t matter.

The rules

Will be thrown

Out

the

window.

No one can blame you

  If only

You call it

  Poetry.
