Well the 2016 ECHL trade deadline has come and go and no suprising not many moves not just on the Royals front, but in the whole league. As we know with Courville he rarely makes deadline deals unless he believes what he has isn't going to be clutch down the stretch. Plus Courville has already made two huge trades in which he didn't give away anyone (futures). He brought back ex-captain Yannick Tifu back in early October and recently brought back Nikita Kashirsky. Again Courville didn't give up anybody for these two players who won the cup with the team back in 2013. Courville also aquired a 2015 KC champion in Kevin Young who has been a key factor on defense for this team. Not to mention putting in a successful waiver claim in Joey Sides. So when you look at it Courville already made some deals which proved to be crucial adds in the line-up. Courville did make a move prior to the deadline yesterday which you can like and not like in a way. The Royals acquired forward Michael Pelech from the Norfolk Admirals in exchange for forward Robbie Czarnik & defenseman Sam Windle. Now I see nothing wrong with this trade because we got a pretty good vet in the line-up. Not saying we don't have any (Tifu, Sides, Perry & Young) but he will be a good asset in the system. Pelech is a big guy who can produce and be very physical and judging by YouTube he can drop them when necessary but I am sure that is not why Courville got him. He can produce as well as he has in this league as he was Utah's leading scorer last season (25G, 34A, In 56GP). Now his plus/minus has dipped down but I think this guy can help out this team and make a push for the playoffs since it is a struggle right now with Elmira & Wheeling hot on the tails. His current stats are (9G, 29A=38 Points in 57GP, -11, 77PIM) Reading will be Pelech's sixth ECHL team (Ontario, Toledo, Cincinnati, Utah & Norfolk). Loosing Czarnik is a huge one still as he has been one of the offensive boosts for this team but again sometimes you got to give away something to get something. Sam Windle on the other hand really won't be missed in the line-up. He has been in and out of the line-up as of late because of defensive log jam. Now Windle will get an opportunity to play on a regular basis with Norfolk. He was thrown into the deal in my opinion. Both Windle & Czarnik will be huge helps for Norfolk to try and make the playoffs.

The Royals also got some offensive boosts today from the Valley both in the name of "Kevin". The Phantoms announced that they loaned forwards Kevin Sundher & Kevin Goumas. Now this move may just be for games to be eligible for playoffs. Sundher had a brief stint as a Royal and only played four games (3G, 4A=7 Points) before getting a shot in the AHL with the Phantoms in which he has been there ever since. Sundher only got to play ten games before getting injured. For him he could just be here for the weekend just on a rehab assignment because he made a big impact in those ten games with the Phantoms. Goumas is here because of the log jam of forwards the Phantoms have plus they are getting healthy as well (Tim Brent returning). Goumas had a short stay here as well to kick off the season and only played two games (both away) in which he had a goal and assist in those two games. Goumas has been a regular for the Phantoms though (6G, 7A=13 Points in 58GP). He definately will get the necessary games to be playoff eligble. Getting both of these guys is huge for the offense. With the recent AHL chances for Justin Crandall & Mike Pereira, the Royals needed some offensive juice and their affiliate comes through in a crucial three game set this weekend with the top two teams in East division. Let's just hope these two can gel with the team because it has been awhile since they were here. No doubt they will and help the team this weekend. Also Courville will ride three goalies as Adam Morrison has now been activated and Martin Ouellette seems to be staying because of Labarbera being healthy again (for now). With all these moves Matt Hatch will hit the reserve for this weekend's games. All in all an ok trade deadline. I am happy LV is starting to help again and hopefully the R's can have a better weekend and get more points because right now it is not easy. Wheeling & Elmira both playing some good hockey. We need to be better and beat these teams this weekend. Courville must believe in the team he has to make a push during the final stretch of games to make the postseason. IN COURVILLE WE TRUST! GO ROYALS! BLEED PURPLE!
