Gray

 

It’s the color of his beard.

It’s the pavement of the road as you hurriedly drive to the hospital.

It’s the sky that seems to mimic your mood.

 

It’s the walls of the room he’s trapped in as he gasps for air.

It’s the tone of his voice; distant and far gone.

 

It’s the color of the nurse’s shoes as she tells you that he has passed.

It’s his lips as they carry his lifeless body away.

 

It’s the color of the casket you chose for him.

It’s the feeling that lingers for so long.

It’s the gravestone you visit once a week.

It’s the sudden bursts of sadness and grief that come out of nowhere a year later.

 

It’s the color of loss.
