Memories of The Past

Shadows of the past clung on to me,

wouldn’t let me go and be free.

Some were warming, others depressing.

But all were from a world I had forsaken.

They lured me into the fantasyland, all fake

and also beckoned me towards the darker forum .

Against my wishes, in a firm embrace, they held me.

The two players, the honey sweet and the venomous.

Who were they? What were they?

They were the memories of the past, my bygone days.

I loved the sweet player, my happy memories.

She was delighting to be fantasized about.

Soothing, and spreading warmth, like heroin.

Every part of her was blissful, everlasting.

She glorified my achievements, successes, gains

With no pessimism, my happy past was like a sedative.

Made me relaxed and overconfident, proud.

She assured that sadness wasn’t a part of me!

Before long the second player, my sad memories,

brought the truth crashing down upon my shoulders.

He was evil, and dark, filled with remorse.

Reminded me, my life’s saddest of memories.

Deaths, failure, sour deals and numerous losses.

Pain engulfed me when I thought about them.

Ending my life didn’t seem so imprudent any more.

He assured that happiness wasn’t a part of me!

Gradually I brushed with the shocking reality,

Memories of the past are a waste of valuable brain space.

With no practical gain, the past is worthless.

Let go off the past and focus on the present.

It only gives momentary pleasure or momentary pain.

As an aftermath of maturity, I grasped,

the truth that what’s gone is gone.

Basking in its glory or mourning in its agony,

is a futile usage of priceless time and energy.

Memories of the past…….
