"Maya! Maya? MAYA!?!?" A woman screamed out into the night. High in a tree branch hid a girl, curled up in a tight ball. She was about thirteen years old with long, tangled black hair and emerald eyes. But the peculiar thing about her was that on her head were a set of black cat ears, with a black tail sticking out of a hole in her skirt. She was wearing a faded, rather torn black skirt with a dark purple tank-top, but it was the middle of winter. "Maya, I know you out there, get your filthy, useless, tailed ass here this instant," the woman’s voice continued ranting with a very colorful vocabulary, waving a whisky bottle around as she spoke, taking a swig every once and a while. The woman’s black eyes sparked with evil intentions, dirty blonde hair flying in the wind. The girl resting in the tree jumped nimbly down, landing right in front of the woman. She knew it would be pointless to hide; she would just get worse punishment the next day. "There you are, you scrawny bitch," the woman snarled, taking another swig of her whisky. When she finished the bottle she threw it at Maya, hitting her arm. Little glass shards embedded themselves into Maya's pale skin. She gave out no noise or expression to let the woman acknowledge the pain searing through her. "C'mon, let's get inside," the woman growled lowly, grabbing a handful of Maya's hair and dragging her by it. "No wonder your parents left you to me, poor Aunt Tess, your just useless vermin. Be thankful I took you in," she snarled as they headed to the kitchen. Ya, thankful that you torture me at every available moment as much as possible, Maya thought bitterly. Grabbing a bottle of rum from the counter, Tess continued where she left off outside...

Maya awoke with more agonizing pain ripping through her stomach. She jumped up to a sitting position on her bed to see Tess at the doorway, glaring at her angrily. She had just thrown a wine bottle at Maya. "What the fuck is up with you?!" Screeched Maya. She immediately regretted it. Tess stormed up to her, yanking Maya up by her hair. "I'll tell you what the fuck is up, you little bitch! That bottle I just threw at you was the last I could find! Where did you put my liquor? And my jewelry, you fucking hag!" "I didn't touch your goddamn stuff, bitch!" Maya yelled in reply. Tess brought her hand back and smacked Maya full on the face. Hard. "No wonder no one wants you! You’re a useless excuse for a human! Wait," she sneered, "you aren't even human! You’re a monster." Tess cut off her shouting to whisper the last word venomously. Tears were now streaming down Maya's face. Maybe she's right, Maya thought bitterly; maybe I am just a pathetic monster. No one wants me... no one cares... Tess threw Maya to the ground, kicking her. Then she yanked Maya back up, using her hair yet again. "Go buy me more, you scummy flea-bag," she snarled, throwing Maya in the direction of the door. As Maya headed out the front door, she decided something that would change her life forever. She didn't want to put up with Tess', or even this town's, shit anymore. She ran in the opposite direction of the shops, sprinting as fast as she could. The last thing she heard of Tess was her screaming "No! Get back here, flea-bag!" and her last thoughts that went through her mind in that god-forsaken town was like I'll go back those words. I'm free! Right...?

~*Three Years Later*~

"I'm back" Maya yelled as she entered the brightness of the abandoned barn. "Hey, Maya!" a voice called out. It was April, her only friend. True, the gang called Hawk Watchers had accepted her, but only for her thieving skills. But April on the other hand... April leapt forward, tackling Maya to the ground in a huge hug. "Ugh... Geroff..." Maya's muffle voice grumbled from under April's hand. After a few more seconds April leaped off of Maya, helping her up. Her long, straight, bubble-gum pink hair was a mess, as was Maya's tumbling black waves.

Maya & April, including outfits (but Maya has ears & tail)

April and Maya grinned stupidly at each other for a moment before they were interrupted by a deep, sexy, voice saying "So, what did you get this time Kitty?" Kitty was Maya's Gang Name, and the speaker was the leader himself, Hawk Gaze. "Hey," Kitty said, smiling slightly. Hawk Gaze was the Deputy when she joined, and it was only because of him that she wasn't killed and got to join. "I was on patrol, not working, but April managed to get 50 gold peices of this rich ass-hole," she said, grinning. "Nice one! How did you do it April?" "Do you really wanna know," she asked, smirking. "Ewe," Kitty said, wrinkling her nose in disgust, twitching her whiskers and ears. Hawk gave a small shudder, turning to Kitty as April licked her lips. (Me: If you don't understand… Well, it's probably better if you don’t >_< ) "So, how was patrol, love?" he asked in his British accent. Maya was used to being called 'love' by now, so she said "Nothing out of the ordinary. Though I think Hopper was right about that gang, The Wolves, wanting our territory..." She trailed off. "We wont let them take what’s ours, don’t worry love," he said. I wish I couldn't she thought sadly, moving her tail around rythmetically, whilst her ears twitched. "AW! You’re so cute! I wish you were my little sister, and not that pesky Hopper," squealed April, hugging Maya yet again. "You look sexy with those catty looks, Kitty. Its quite irresistalbe," smirked Hawk, as flirty to Maya as always. Kitty gave April a weird look and glared playfully at Hawk Gaze. "I'm off to bed," she said, shrugging it off. She headed to her area on the second floor of the barn. Up there was where some of the most important people in the gang slept; 18 year old Hawk Gaze, 18 year old April, 14 year old Hopper, and 17 year old Talon. Talon was the Deputy who absolutely despised Kitty and tortured her whenever he could, much to April's & Hawk's dislike. In fact, most of the gang took it into habit of ruining her life. In ways I still felt so unwanted... she thought sadly, tail drooping as she plopped onto her bed, falling fast asleep.

"Hawk, Talon, Everybody! Wake up! The Wolves are attacking!" a high pitched voice yelled. Hopper, Kitty thought as she leapt upwards, ears pricked, dagger in hand. "Quick, in battle armor, and get in your positions," A deep British accent boomed. Hawk. Snapping to attention, Kitty sprinted down the stairs to the weapons closet, grabbing her short-bow and leather vest wile she thought How did they find the hide-out?. The Wolves were a large and powerful gang; they would be hard to fight. As they all headed out the barn, forming their positions, Hawk yelled, "aim to kill! They are an evil group, they'd do the same!" A few gasps and murmurs ran through the group. Rarely did gangs aim to kill. But it abruptly ended as Hopper randomly tumbled down the hill they were standing on, arrow protruding from her chest. "Hopper!" A grieved yell came from the crowd. April. Below the hill a huge group of people came running out from the woods. The Wolves. They were evil, cruel people, whose aim was to take over the country, and even the world, starting small by tackling the gangs. They consisted of many grown-ups and a few young adults and teenagers, all raised for war. Kitty's tail twitched in anticipation as she nocked her first arrow. She took aim, fired, and bam! She hit her target. "Nice one love!" Hawk shouted as he sprinted down the hill to join the battle forming there.

The battle seemed to be dieing down, almost over, but the winners weren't Hawk Watchers, not by a long shot. I'm running low on arrows, Kitty thought, soon I need to go retrieve more from the barn. Just as those thoughts were forming an arrow came flying at her, hitting her in the thigh. "Take that, monster!" A voice yelled from the crowd, but she couldn't tell from whom. Ignoring the comment she finished the last of her arrows, pulling out her dagger. She rushed headlong into the fight below; ears laid back and tail frisking wildly. Maya ignored the pain in her thigh. Fighting some warrior with a broad-sword she heard a piercing scream from the crowd. She turned swiftly to see an unwanted scene. There, pink hair flying, was April facing away from Kitty. With a sword sticking out of her. She was standing before the limp body of Hopper, probably defending her long-gone sister. "NOOOOO!" Maya wailed, dropping to her knees. "Ah, there you are you little brute," a voice said. Maya looked up to see the speaker. It was the same person that killed April, and she had a long-bow along her back, so maybe the same that murdered Hopper. "Well, flea-bag, let’s get this over with. Oh, before I kill you, my name is Ninii, leader of The Wolves. It’s been a pleasure meeting a monster." She said, and evil grin plastered on her pale face, light blonde hair blowing in the wind. Kitty leapt up angrily, jerking her dagger forward, aiming for Ninii's heart. Ninii deflected it with an easy flick of her long-sword. Maya's emerald eyes, filled with grief and anger, glared at Ninii, making her flinch. But then she returned to battle mode lunging forward in attempt to stab Kitty, but failed when she jumped nimbly to the side, ears pricked. "You know, they have quite a price over your head. Everyone wants you dead. Your just a worthless peice of shit no one cares for, you parents dont care fore you, and hell! Even your gang doesn’t want you! I don't see anyone rushing to your aid." She laughed cruelly, blue eyes sparkling. "SHUT UP!" Maya sobbed, remembering Tess and everyone else. No one cared, what was the point in living? Then she remembered April and Hawk and Hopper. They had accepted her, even cared for her. As soon as she thought that three arrows were sticking out of her chest, piercing through her thick leather vest. She looked up, dazed, just to see a smirking Ninii dropping her bow to re-unsheathe her sword. Doing a funky motion, she lunged forward aiming to kill. Moving in the nick of time Kitty only got a gash on her arm. Looking down to inspect it, she knew it wasn't too severe. Retrieving her dagger Maya stood up, ready to fight Ninii again, just to discover she was gone. Her ears twitched in annoyance. After a few moments of fruitless searching Maya heard a cry of pain and turned around to see Hawk. Fighting Ninii. “Shit!” she yelled, running to try and help him. “No! Kitty, love, run away!” Ignoring his pleas she continued towards him. But it was too late. With one swift movement Ninii took care of Hawk and headed towards Maya yet again. Kitty felt something wet go down her cheek. Is it raining? She wondered. Then she realized she was crying again. “Aw, the poor kitty cat is crying! Does she miss her friend? You vermin, no one cares for you! Understand that already! Or is your mind to small to comprehend basic facts?” Kitty lunged forward, adrenaline and anger pulsing through her body. She had to avenge Hopper, April, and Hawk…… “Fuck you, bitch, die!” They screamed in unison, leaping at one-another. They both missed, but for some reason Ninii dropped down, limp, her blood staining the grass beneath her. Whiskers flicking in surprise, Maya looked up to see Talon standing over Ninii’s body. The Wolves slowly took notice of their fallen leader, fleeing in fright. Soon the whole army was gone, only the Hawk Watchers remaining. Few were dead, but many had severe wounds. Talon growled at Kitty. “What?” She asked. “You know perfectly well what, bitch. You’re wanted. And I’ll do the pleasure of returning you, preferably dead. After all, you're just a useless monster. No one needs you, no one wants you, except for thosefools.” He snarled, cocking his head in the direction of April’s, Hawk’s, and Hopper’s bodies. A few people murmured and shook their heads in disagreement. “This war was a curse from us taking you in. I wouldn’t be shocked if you told them where hideout was. You were rather late from patrol yesterday…” now the few who were on Maya’s side were agreeing with Talon, unsheathing their weapons, heading toward Kitty. “Wait.” He said. Everyone stopped going towards her. “I will do it.” He said smiling evilly. “Any last words, monster?” He asked in a falsely sweet tone. Kitty had tears pouring down her face by now, “All… *hiccup* I wanted was to be… Wanted!” She gasped out the last word as Talon sword protruded from her back. “Rest in peace” he mocked.
