Never judge a book by its cover, they say

What about a story you only half read?

Fiction and non-fiction blended and confused

Creating something worse than a lie

A rumour passed in chinese whispers

From person to person fast as the wind

Something you heard then heard again

Told among those who don't really care

A conversation starter of 'guess what I heard'

Another spin-off of original events

Adding to the tragic jumble of words and phrases

Misheard, misspelled, made-up

Another straw on the camel's back

It's as if you think it will never falter

An emotionless victim of made-up stories

That is how the subject is seen in your eyes

When tears fall, soak into pillows at night

Tell me your jokes are funny

When you see the ocean you created

Through telling people something you overheard

Fictious nonsense becoming gospel truth

When spoken through the lips

Of the bitter harpy with blackened heart

And clothes too small for decency

I am not an emotionless robot

I cannot take your rumours forever

The human mind can be pushed so far

Passing the brink of no return, falling to insanity

Half-truths and chinese whispers

Those words you say without a thought

Another joke with your fake friends

The victim left with another burden to bear
