Finding out my best friend was pregnant rocked my world. She was planning on flying back home to have the baby and unable to even speak, i wrote this poem and sent it to her.

This is in memory of all the angels
the littlest ones, that is
the ones that have already flown away
the angels who were once a part of us
demanding we wear loose clothes to let them grow
giving us that craving for crazy foods
and making pictures of our “bump” the best ones
the littlest angels that inspired nurseries
countless diapers
crazy amounts of clothes
they would only grow out of within a weeks time
this is for the littlest angels
who even though they never walked
left permanent footprints on our hearts
that even though they never laughed
we hear it in the bells
and even though they never said it
in our dreams we hear “mama”
this is for the littlest angels
the ones who come home with us
and sleep in the nurseries
the angels we dress in perfectly matched outfits
right down to ruffled socks or little ties
the angles start crawling before we know it
and are walking faster than we can blink
and before we have caught up with them
are whispering “night mama”
as we tuck them into bed
and kiss their foreheads
and send up a prayer of thanks
for our littlest angels
