I watch the calm surface of the pond
as it shines in the light of the full moon
I hear the bubble of the natural spring
that gives it life
in the moonlight, I see the outline of the heron
standing there
quietly, gently,
motionless and majestic
I feel the soft breeze
that sets the ripples in motion
and makes the spanish moss sway
it caresses my cheek and lifts my hair
and I smell the sweet perfume
of the honeysuckle vines blended
with the smell of the water
the pond at night is a beautiful thing
exciting all the senses
with its magical essence.
if you sit quietly,
you can see that the pond is its own world
bursting with life
unconcerned with the burdens
we put on ourselves
it is serene
surrounded by the bustling world,
and yet, still isolated and pristine
harboring its ecosystem
preserving itself against the elements
that seek to destroy its innocence
to tear it down
and remove the sanctuary.
I sometimes wonder
if people remember that we are stewards
we arent sent here to destroy,
but to save,
not to tear down,
but to build up.
to take care of the world around us
we are suppose to appreciate the beauty
of creation
everyone would realize this
if they would just take the time
to sit at the edge of the pond.
