Sonnet: Flood
Everything drenched like a drowned rat
Sewage whiff that stayed in a cloying way
Rapidly pelting down hard and fast like rain
My feet paddled in the rising river
Each droplet reeked like athlete’s foot
-Drained from the socks that spun in the wash
Cheap perfume scent; from the pungent
Fumes that filled up around my pantry
The spray over flowed the buckets
Nothing soaked up the dampness at all
The sweat from my forehead added to it.
The puddle seeped through to my lounge too
My heart soared through my ribs; while
Watching all come absolutely saturated!
