crawling up

falling down

looking for a way around

blindly searching

hoping for light

eyes caked shut

by years of fright

beating, jumping

higher, she hears

roaring, fire born of tears

loneliness her only friend

fright staying until the end

shadows crawling

flattening each spark

light sucked out

engulfed by dark

a single ribbon

of fear rises above,

igniting a fire

searching for love.
