i dream of a day

where nightmares exist

in the everyday world,

no more playing tricks

my brain is a journey

my life is in pain

i grab your knife, hand bleeding

as you shout my name.

i met you in a dream

it started with a story

a lie, a slip up,

a shout to gain glory.

you saved me time and again

through the places you went

places i’ll always remember

through the time that we spent.

i was in love with you

the things that you did

the things that we saw

to which we fought and we hid.

now in battle we seek

the monster beneath

my heart remains empty

as my light purple sheath.

you toss me your knife

as you fall, petrified,

under the foot of the beast,

unwilling, i cried.

the rage was a ribbon

reaching to my heart

igniting what was there

enlarging a spark.

eyes diamonds of blades,

hands metal with pain

the taste of blood and of tears

still engraved in my brain.

the beast fell,

as it did,

a voice rang out clear,

a scream of war and of remembrance

but you couldn’t hear.

you were always there to save me

you were there through and through

a cough of blood, a whisper,

“…I am just like you.”
