the greatest masks

are the ones

that you can’t see.

the ones that blend in so gently-

so smoothly,

ivory upon dreams.

hiding the fears,

the greatest masks

are the ones

that are never spoken about

merely accepted

to be the creation

of nature-

as the creature behind it whimpers

and no soul can hear,

for it is protected

and hidden

and shadowed

by its mask.
