Welcome to reality where everything is as it seems.

I'll start by offering a toast

While the glasses we raise shatter in our hands.

Here we are now, stuck holding fragments of glass

And wondering how so much red ended up on the floor.

I'll tell you all about how it got there

And the cynic in me will add in the part about

How second chances sting like bees.

Although I'd like to avoid the topic of second guessing,

Because there is no use

In trying to go back in time whether figuratively or literally,

Because after all, we are in reality.

I'll let you in on a secret:

People disappoint me more than I acknowledge

And I let them lie through their teeth because it's better

Than the truth.

I turn a blind eye to the mistakes you make and faults you have,

But this redeeming quality in me

Might just be my downfall.

When will I realize that

People don't change and that

No matter how much I hope things turn out differently,

My initial thoughts are right

Why is it that if I can draw anything,

I can't draw near to these things I so badly need

To be true?

With another shattering toast we raise our shards

Up and listen as we all agree

We hate reality.
