Inspired by the picture- it's kind of weird and a little out of my comfort zone, but I had fun with it! Cover art by Lucy S., @ilucydesign on Instagram. Used with permission.

Folk stories and old legends say

That on the shortest night, ‘fore longest day,

A portal from another world

Opens not so far away.

Follow the paths of the streets that curl,

Past streetlights shining white as pearls

And buildings reaching for the sky,

Down alleys full of garbage hurled.

The tallest skyscraper, standing high—

Climb it when midnight is nigh.

Stand on the roof and search for stars

‘Til one across the darkness flies.

It will fall right where you are.

Have care– it’s travelled from afar.

As it lands, the portal opes

To show a darkness, black as tar.

A strange world lies beyond its glow:

Another step, and in you’ll go.

A minute more, and it will close.

Where does it lead? That no one knows.
