Stretching out in front of me, my worst nightmare sat still in

couldn’t tell if it was looking at me or not, as

eyes. Nor a mouth, a nose or ears. But it

could feel me. It froze me up at the sight of it.

It, being the narrow bridge that claimed my life.

Time had stopped, frozen by the icicles that hung innocently

off the wooden beams. Had I gone back? There was no way of knowing.

I took my my first step onto the bridge.

I couldn’t feel it. My transparent skin could not measure up to

what it had been previously, before the horrific incident. A

past. A gust of newly blown snow. The taste of

fresh Winter breeze.

Another step.

Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad. I mean, it didn’t take that

much to walk across a bridge. It might even be relieving,

knowing that I was finally facing my fears. That was

I didn’t realise it, but I was already halfway across the bridge.

Suddenly, a car came rushing out of nowhere. Its bright

headlights and screeching tyres made me realise that

nothing would stop the enevitable.

I was dead already. What had made me think that I could

defy that?
