Deadly Love

High school was coming to an end, and everyone was talking about college.  For George and Polly, college was the worst topic of conversation to talk about.  They had been boyfriend and girlfriend all throughout high school, and now George was going to be moving away for college.  Since the beginning of their relationship, they believed that they would be together forever.  They went to every dance together and were crowned king and queen at their prom.  Polly’s parents loved George, and George’s parents loved Polly.  It all seemed so perfect except for the fact that George would soon be leaving Polly.  George had received a full ride to college for football.  He was an outstanding football player, while Polly was the head cheerleader of the high school squad.
Graduation had already passed, and summer was soon over.  Polly had been helping George pack for college and made sure that he would take plenty of things that would remind him of her.  She spent hours making a huge collage of pictures of them that he could hang in his dorm room.  They spent every second possible before George had to leave.  When the day came for George to say goodbye, Polly was so sad because she didn’t know what she was going to do without him.
“George, I wish you would just stay here with me,” insisted Polly.
“I know, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.  You know I deserve to be on a college team.”
“But, George, when are we supposed to see each other?” asked Polly.
“I’ll come home whenever I can, and you can come visit me whenever you want!”
“I will for sure be visiting you all the time.  I am going to be so bored without you.  We spent so much time together, that I don’t know how I’m going to survive with you gone away at school,” wailed Polly.
“You will be fine, I promise.  We will talk constantly!” George reassured Polly.
“I hope so, George.  Promise me that we will be together no matter what. You know I would be so lost without you and that I need you,” pleaded Polly.
“I promise, Polly, everything is going to be alright.  We will be together no matter what.  You know I love you and I need you too.”
When George got to college, he constantly thought about Polly.  He called and texted her all the time.  He missed her so much.  He was thinking about moving back home to be with Polly.  As soon as classes started, things got better for him.  He started to meet new people and wasn’t thinking about Polly as much.  In one of his classes, he met a girl named Trisha. Trisha was beautiful and smart.  They started to hang out a lot out of class.  George still thought about Polly and still considered her his girlfriend, but knew he was slowly falling for Trisha.  It was too hard for George not to fall for her.
Polly hadn’t visited George once and decided she was going to surprise him by going to see him.  She thought that he would be so happy and so glad to see her.  She left immediately after her last class on Friday.  Right when she got to his campus, he was sitting right in the middle of the courtyard with another girl. Soon she would have a surprise of her own.
“Who is this? What are you doing?” asked Polly.
“Polly! What are you doing here?” questioned George.

“I came to surprise you, George.”

“Well, it’s a big surprise, Polly!” groaned George.

“Who is this?” demanded Polly.

“Polly, I understand this is going to be hard for you, but this is Trisha.  I met her

in my math class.  We started to hang out, and we really have grown to like each other a

lot.  I was going to tell you, but I wanted to wait for the right time.  She really means a lot

to me, and I really have fallen for her.  I’m so sorry, I never wanted to hurt you.”

“Are you kidding me, George? We have been in love for five years, and you are

going to throw all of it away for her?  George, you can’t do this to me! You are

everything to me, and without  you I have nothing or nobody,” grieved Polly.

“Polly, I’m so sorry! I really didn’t want it to end like this, but I’m not in love

with you anymore.  It’s so hard being away from each other.  I’m with Trisha here in

college, and we love each other very much.”

“I’m so sorry, Polly, I never knew you guys were so strong before he moved

here,” pleaded Trisha.

“Don’t you say a word! This is all your fault!” demanded Polly.

“But.”

“Don’t but me, Trisha!  I don’t want to hear your voice!” bossed Polly.

“Polly, this is not her fault.  This is my fault.  I should have been straight up with

you,” responded George.

“You should have never started liking her! We are in love, George, and you will

end everything with her now to be with me!” dictated Polly.

“Polly, there will be no changing my decision.  I live here now and I want to be

with Trisha.  I think it would just be best if you were to go home.”

When Polly returned home, she was so depressed that she locked herself in her room.  She wouldn’t talk to anyone.  She stopped eating and soon became very sick.  She was so sick and so depressed that she started to have suicidal thoughts.  A couple days after the confrontation with Polly, George received a phone call stating that Polly had committed suicide.  He immediately dropped to the floor and cried.  He never wanted it to end up like this.  The only way he was going to get over the fact that he was the reason she committed suicide, was to get rid of everything that reminded him of Polly, and to move on.  His life had been changed forever.  He soon was not able to feel like he could ever fall in love again.  He was too afraid that something bad would happen like what happened to Polly.  George was never able to fall in love again.
