Sometimes Fate Is Stronger Than True Love
By Kayla Christiansen

The date was June 18th, 2004. It was a very beautiful day full of sunshine and was meant to be one of the best days of Susannah Smitherson's life. Who would of thought that it would instead turn out to be the craziest day of her life? Susannah sure didn't think anything could possibly ruin this day for her. She had been planning this day for an entire year. She had everything planned to her idea of 'perfection'. Her fiance at the time, Henry Banks, had went along with it like it was really, truely, meant to be. But it wasn't. It was supposed to be their wedding day. Susannah had originally planned for a huge church wedding in Knoxville, Tennesse with all of their family members. But, Henry had somehow found a way to talk her into having the wedding at his work in Sandusky, Ohio. This puzzled Susannah. But, she loved Henry so much that she was willing to marry him where ever he chose, and so she agreed to do as he wished and have the wedding in Sandusky. She spent the next year planning the entire wedding out. She went over all of the details, several times to make sure that everything was absolutely perfect. The strange thing is, she hadn't the slightest idea what Henry did for a living, and yet she agreed to have their wedding there, just to make him happy. Now, that is true love isn't it? Or perhaps it is just a very naive young woman?

Sandusky was a rather small town with many potheads and drug dealers. But, it was also full of love. It had a rather mysterious vibe to it. Any visitors whom went there, could tell right away that the town definitely had some hidden secrets to it. What were those secrets? Not a single soul had any idea.

On their wedding day, Susannah finally got to go see Henry's work place. Throughout the past year, Henry had insisted that he did not want her to see the building until their wedding day, and so, all Susannah could do was have everything sent there and hope that Henry's secretaries would do their best to make sure everything turned out perfectly.  Henry promised that they would. When Susannah arrived, Henry awaited for her outside of the rather small, peculiar looking building in which he worked. "Hello, Susannah. Please follow me and I will give you a tour of the place." He greeted her. The greeting seemed rather unusual to Susannah. What had happened to this kiss on the cheek and the 'Hello, love' that he had usually greeted her with? She tried not to let her suspicions get the best of her and shook them out of her head for the moment. "Okay, love." She told him and then smiled. She attempted to kiss him but he pushed her away. "I would really rather prefer for you not to do that to me at work, Susannah." He hissed. Susannah's eyes grew wide as she noticed that his eyes were a rather dark shade of red. She couldn't take it anymore. She needed to know. "What is going on Henry? What's wrong with you? I know you didn't get new contacts because when I arrived here, your eyes were blue, Henry! Blue! Not dark red! Also, you have never hissed at me before! Tell me what is going on!" She shouted at him. This only made things worse. His body stiffened momentarily and his face, neck, and hands turned red. "That is none of your business. Now you come with me!" He growled. She was too shocked to do or say anything and so she just stood there, practically frozen to the sidewalk. This really pissed him off and so he grabbed her by her wrists and pulled her into that small, peculiar building.

When they entered the building, Susannah completely freaked out. The building was dark. Shadows lurked all over the place. There was a red substance splattered all over the walls. Was it... Blood? She could hear blood curdeling screams from all over the place and then soon after the screaming came a sound that sent chills down her spine. It sounded like bones being ripped apart and knawed on. He then began the tour. "This," He gestured towards the first room on their left. "Is where we store our prey until we get around to eating it." Her jaw practically fell to the floor. That room was full of humans. Innocent and pitiful looking humans. They looked so scared; so lost; so helpless. He continued the tour. "And this," He gestured to the first room to their right. "Is one of the many rooms where we feast upon our prey. We find it rather amusing to give them the oppurtunity to fight back and so we each have our own individual dining room." The rest of the tour, he continued to point out their dining rooms. When they got to the last room, Susannah saw it. An innocent human being preyed upon by... What was it? Henry was obviously one of them evil cannibalistic creatures. He of course couldn't be human. What was he? "What in the bloody Hell are you?" Susannah asked him. A huge grin spread across his face and she could see chunks of human skin between his teeth most likely from his last prey. This gave her goosebumps. "What am I, Susannah? 'Tis a very good question. Let's just say, I am designed to destroy all humans. Humans are what are destroying this beloved planet and you all deserve to die. Oh, and killing you is rather fun too." He told her. "Are you saying what I think you're saying? You kill and prey on innocent humans and you think that it is okay to do so? Does that mean...?" She asked. This made him laugh. "Yes, I am saying that. And yes, that means that you could possibly be my next prey if you do not agree to marry me. But, if you do marry me, as soon as you say the simple, 'I do', you will turn into one of us. It's your choice. Hopefully you make the right one." He winked at her. With that, Susannah grew rather dizzy and collapsed onto the floor.

When she awoke, she found that she was in a dark room with no light what so ever. "Where in the Hell am I?" She thought aloud. She was surprised to realize that she wasn't the least bit afraid. Where was the fear? All she felt was brave and relaxed until she heard his voice. "Hello again, Susannah. You've been asleep for quite some time, now. You must be starving." Henry greeted her. The bravery remained there but the relaxed feeling had basically evaporated. She moaned in frusteration. She didn't want to marry him and become one of those horrible creatures. But, she also didn't want to be that night's dinner. She just wanted to get out of there and find help for all of those innocent people. "I'm not hungry." She stated. He chuckled. "Oh, then I suppose you have made up your mind about what you want to do?" He suggested. "Yes, actually. I have made up my mind." She replied. "Oh? And just what is it that you decided?" Henry asked her. Susannah stood up in the dark for a moment, wishing she could see in the dark. When she realized that she couldn't see anything, she decided that she felt more secure sitting down. "I've decided that I do not want to marry you. Nor do I want to be tonight's dinner. So, will you please just release me from this hell hole and I will be on my own way?" He started to laugh hysterically and then all of a sudden light filled the room and she saw an arrow stab him in the back. He screamed and then collapsed onto the floor.

Feeling dazed and quite confused, she took advantage of the time she had and used it to escape. She darted for the door but, before she could exit, she was swooped up into someone's arms. She tried kicking, screaming, and even biting the man that held her in his arms, but none of that seemed to effect him. "Just hold on tight and close your eyes." He told her. For once, fearful of getting hurt, she decided to do as he said and close her eyes and hold on tight and so she did.

Susannah must have fallen asleep in his arms, because when she opened her eyes, she found herself in a rather comfortable queen sized bed. She yawned and stretched. Then, she realized that she again had no idea where she was.She moaned because of how comfortable she felt. She didn't want to get up. "Good morning, Susannah." An unfamiliar voice filled the room she was in. "Who are you? Where am I? Oh no. You're not one of those disgusting, evil creatures are you?" She whimpered. She felt so afraid. Suddenly a tall handsome man appeared in her door way. "Oh no, no, no. My name is Damien Silverfoot. My father owns the Silverfoot Productions Company. We're known for our horror movies that we make but we've done so much more than make movies." This didn't surprise Susannah. She had the feeling there was something different about him too and she knew he couldn't possibly be one of those monstrous, repugnant creatures. He looked so genuine; so angelic. He had dirty blonde hair that fell down past his shoulders and golden eyes."Oh? Let me guess. You rescue pitiful humans like me from being preyed upon by those THINGS?" She asked. "Close, but not exactly. Our job is to slay those creatures so that they may not prey upon innocent humans no more. Those creatures have a name, Susannah. They are demons. We could of just let you either marry him or be his prey, but a) we do not have the heart to do that and b) we had the feeling that you were going to marry him and if you married him... Well, that would be horrible. It would ruin your fate, Susannah. It would also ruin our fate. I don't want to creep you out but, fate wants us to be together. We are meant to be. We are supposed to eventually fall in love and get married, but for now, we are supposed to work together to kill the leader of all demons. Do you know who that leader is, Susannah?" He stared at her as if he expected her to know. She pondered that question for a moment and then she said the most obvious answer she could think of. "Henry?" He smiled satisfyingly and nodded his head, yes. "You may not know it now, Susannah, but you have the power to destroy Henry. But, only if we work together. You need me to teach you how exactly you are supposed to kill him. You are meant to be a demon slayer." It took her a few minutes to comprehend all of what he had just said. "So, when can we start?" She simply said. He didn't seem surprised at the fact that she seemed so cool with the fact that she was destined to be a demon slayer. "Well, all I really need to do is tell you how to kill a demon. Then, your instincts should kick in from there. Are there any questions you have before I tell you?" He asked. It only took her a few seconds this time before questions popped into her head. "How is he still alive? Why didn't that arrow kill him? I mean, from what I saw, it looked pretty painful. When my instincts kick in, will I change at all? Am I going to become wild and ready to kill?" He smiled at the fact that she had so many questions. "Those arrows can only knock a demon out for a couple of days. He should be waking up soon. Yes, quite honestly Susannah, when your instincts kick in, you will be ready to kill and pretty wild until you kill the demon you are destined to kill. Henry. So, yes, you should brace yourself because when your instincts kick in, you will be able to smell a demon from miles away. Are you ready for me to tell you?" She comprehended this and then shook her head. "One more question. Why is it that I am not afraid of those nasty demons, but I am afraid of what I am about to become?" She asked. He chuckled. "You can't be afraid of what you are destined to kill, Susannah. Of course you are afraid of becoming a killer. All of that fear will melt away once your instincts kick in, though. Now then, may I please tell you how to kill a demon?" She nodded her head. "Teach away."

Damien cleared his throat and studied her. "Let me just take a before picture of you. Trust me, you will be able to see the difference in your before and after photos." He took a picture of her smiling and then continued. "Alright, Susannah. To kill a demon, you need a special kind of bullet. You can use a typical, normal looking gun. Just, a very special bullet. This bullet," He pulls a bullet out of his pocket and shows it to her. You can already see something different about her. Her eye color is slowly beginning to change. Then, he places it in the gun and continues. "Has a special kind of chemical in it that will instantly kill a demon as long as you make sure to shoot the demon in the head. If you shoot him anywhere else, it will not effect the demon. So, be sure to shoot Henry in the head. I will give you five bullets just in case you miss on the first few tries. Now, go kill him and meet me back here when you are done, okay? I am finished teaching."

Susannah began to shake uncontrollably for a moment and then her eye color changed from hazel to golden. She looked even more beautiful than she had before and even a bit more muscular. She was offically a demon killer. She snatched the gun out of Damien's hand, placed it securely in her jacket pocket, and prepared to leap out of the window. "Wait!" Damien shouted. She froze on the window sill and then turned to face him. He then took the after photo of her and nodded his head. The signal to leave. After that, she lept out of the window and landed on her feet on the ground. She looked up and realized that she had just lept out of a six story window. She didn't care. Her instincts had taken over. She began to run at full speed, back to Henry's 'work' building.

When she arrived there about five minutes later, (Demon killers can run up to 150 mph) she checked to make sure that the loaded gun was still in her pocket. When she knew that it was, she decided that she would prefer to enter the building in a more exciting way.Through the roof. She also decided to leap onto the roof of the building next to Henry's death chamber. She leapt up there and ran across the wire connecting the two buildings. The wire broke as soon as she made it across. She saw a door on the roof but she also saw a sun roof window. She decided it would be more fun to enter that way. Right as she was about to, she smelled it. Henry. He wasn't in there.

She sniffed the air and realized that he was down the street and around the corner. She then jumped off of the building and began to run down the street. She was about to turn the corner when she sniffed the air and realized that he was no longer around the corner. He was heading her way. She decided to hide in an alley and wait for him to pass by. A couple of minutes later, his scent was strong. He was about to pass by the alley. She pulled the gun out of her pocket and prepared to shoot. Then, she peered around the corner of the alley and she saw. It wasn't Henry.

She let out a loud screech of frusteration and sniffed the air again. She smelled his scent faintly. He was a couple of blocks away. She looked at the guy that was now wearing Henry's jacket. She noticed his eyes as soon as she studied him. They were dark red. She decided to play with him before she went after Henry. "Hey there!" She shouted in his direction. His eyes grew wide with surprise and pointed at himself to make sure she was talking to him. She nodded her head and smiled. The shock melted off of him and he was under her spell. "Care to come hang out with me in this lovely dark alley?" She winked at him. A huge grin spread across his face and he nodded his head, yes. When he entered the alley, she let him start to kiss at her neck. As he slowly started to move down her body, she pulled the gun out of her pocket and shot him in the head. He instantly fell to the ground. She laughed histerically at the sight of him. He looked so excited. He had actually thought that she would be his dinner. "Dumb ass." She said aloud, then sniffed the air to figure out which way Henry had went. He was a few blocks away but she could instantly catch up with him at the rate that she ran. She placed the gun back in her pocket and off she went.

On her way, Susannah had ran into three more demons and played with them too. Her instincts really had kicked in. But, she only had one more bullet. She was almost caught up with Henry when she saw another demon. She began to hiss and she had to force herself not to mess around with him too. After getting a grip on reality, her instincts allowed her to resist that demon so the she could kill the demon that she was meant to kill. Henry. About a minute later, she finally saw him. He had jumped up onto the roof of Goodwill. A big grin spread across her face and she jumped onto the buiding closest to her and then began jumping from building to building until she reached Goodwill. "Ohhh Henry, I think I have made my decision.. Come out, come out where ever you are. I would like to share my decision with you." She said in her most seductive voice. Suddenly, Henry appeared out of the shadows. "Oh, really? And just what is your decision?" He tried to play seductively with her, but her instincts didn't allow it to work. She pretended it did though. "Well, can we play my new game first and then I'll tell you? It's a game I've come to love and I am pretty sure that you will love it too." She winked at him. "Oooh I like the way that sounds." He told her. He had actually fallen for it.

She walked over to him and slowly unzipped her jeans like she was actually going to let that happen. Then, she allowed him to take her shirt off and begin to kiss at her neck and slowly make his way down her chest. When he reached the bottom of her stomach, she decided to tell him what exactly the game was. "You see Henry, babe. You are the naughty, naughty, demon..." She pulled the gun out of her jacket that was laying on the ground, and I, am the very good demon KILLER." And with that, she raised the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. He, like her first four victims, instantly fell to the ground. She had done it. She had killed the demon fate had wanted her to kill. She had killed Henry.

After Susannah zipped up her jeans and put her shirt back on, she headed back to Damien's place. It took her about 20 minutes but she eventually made it. She climbed six stories up and then entered through the window she had left in. Damien awaited for her on the bed. He smiled at her and she smiled back. She walked over to the bed and when she got there, she suddenly felt her attraction for him. "I'm assuming that you did it?" Damien asked her; not a trace of doubt in his voice. "Yes, and I used all of the bullets. Not because I kept missing, but because I killed four other along the way." She explained to him. "Very impressive, my love." A grin spread across his face and he stood up off of the bed. He looked so proud of her. Suddenly, she couldn't fight the urge anymore. Her instincts wanted her to do it so bad, and so she kissed him.

They got into it for the longest time. He had tried to make love with her, but she insisted that she doesn't do that stuff until marraige. Then, he proposed to her. She of course said yes. They ended up getting married on November 2nd, 2005. They had two children, one boy and one girl, and taught them to be demon killers too. Fate had won and gotten what it had wanted. Even if it did mean that no one was truely happy. Well, Damien and Susannah were happy. Right?
