There was a child,
Who had a dream,
A dream of what he would like to be.
A funny dream they called it,
A sweet dream they named it.

When he grew up,
When he grew tall,
He decided to look
In That Book,
The Book that knows all,
If his dream would come true,
If his dream would ever be.

That Book would surely tell him -
The Book that knows all -
Who he was,
What he was,
Who and what he would be.

So there he looked,
In That book,
The Book that knows all,
To see what he would see.

That Book was written -
The Book that knows all -
A long time ago,
Before machines could walk or talk,
How long exactly -
Man will never know.

It takes the past
And makes the future,
Using your identity to paint a picture.

Your colour,
Your age,
Your background,
Your income,
Your height and weight.

It paints a picture
Of who you are,
What you are,
Who and what you will be.

So the child that grew up,
The child that grew tall,
Looked in That Book -
The Book that knows all -
To see what his fortune would be.

He found his colour,
He found his age,
He found his background,
His income,
His height and weight
There in That Book -
The Book that knows all -
He found what he was,
Who he was,
Who and what he would be.

Beaten, battered and bruised
Homeless, disregarded and used
Father to a child he'll never know
Locked away with no escape
He'll crave the powder
The powder that's as white as snow.

That Book -
The Book that knows all -
Told him his future was hopeless,
His dream -
The one they called funny,
The one they named sweet -
Was just a dream,
That's all it would ever be.

He'd dreamed of dancing with the stars,
And of playing with the moon,
But That Book -
The Book that knows all -
Told him his dream would never come true.

His skin too dark and too light,
He's too old and too young,
His background is filthy and clean,
He's too short,
He's too tall,
Too fat and too thin.
There in That Book,
The Book That knows all,
He found out what his life would really be.

When he saw what he saw -
What he wished he'd never seen-
When he saw what his future would turn out to be,
When he saw his dream would never be,
He shut That Book -
The Book that knows all -
Shut his eyes and went to sleep,
So that he wouldn't have to see,
What he'd never wished for,
The curse that would come to be -

But he lived in his dream -
The dream they called funny,
The dream they named sweet -
There he hid from his future
For all eternity.
