In Praise of Phrases

We all lived in glass houses

And everybody got stoned

And when it rained cats and dogs

Every dog had its day

Cold hard cash burns

A hole in your pocket

But a moment on the loose lips

Stays forever on the sinking hips

Love means never having

To play Sorry!

When it’s game time or go time

Why don’t you stay?

Don’t remove the log from my eye

And take it up the creek

If you’ve got a paddle in yours

And you’re the beholder

Stop and smell the thorns

And the smoke of unburned bridges

Before you walk a mile

Without a good soul

Don’t count your chilis

If they’re not hatch

But if you’ve got enough variety

You won’t need any more spice

My lips are sealed now

Even sea lioned

As nothing gold goes away

I too have nothing more to say
