Winter

Young girls resting in the bad lands

Dozing through a tragic cold

Dream of velvet crafts and madmen

The butcher cries, his hogs are sold

A start young boy, a flighty fellow

His feet are filthy as he runs

Afraid of wolves and his own shadow

Fears his father will find his gun

How he changes how he molds

Once a boy who spits and stutters

Clothed in green to fight the cold

Now a rambling boy, just like the others

A friend of a friend tells beautiful stories

And dances with his father’s son

Who is breaking rocks down in the quarry

Collapsing in the harrowing sun

Frantic dog cry and whimper

While the cycle trudges on again

Searching for pups lost last winter

Will this winter ever end
