I am from the dry, scorching sun

of Southern California,

learning to swim

with Grandma and Grandpa.

I am from a large, loving family

separated by distance,

not by support.

I am from a house full of animals,

big and small,

finding hair on my clothes was

an everyday occurrence.

I am from a small, cozy home,

of sleepovers and ghost stories.

Of sleeping in closets

hiding from ghosts.

I am from The Doors,

and country music,

always singing and dancing.

I am from a mother and father

who love me equally,

but separately.
