Its a silly thing, really. But Spring is such a beautiful time of year.

If, should I decide it,

My love was unrequited

Would you take a walk me

Through the grass

Around the cherry tree?

Would you hold out your hand

'Till every blossom fell?

Catch them in your palm and

see just how sweet they smell?

Shall we close our eyes a while?

Or watch our petals fall?

Each one a pretty memory,

The kind we would recall

In a conversation

In later years

When we are old and grey

When happiness was not so far

And we’d laugh at what we'd say.

We’ll share our joke so privately,

Nostalgic to the end.

We'll know how it felt to love.

We've been there, now and then.

And then I’ll wish that you were him

And you’ll wish I was her

And we’ll forget about them quietly

And retreat to our own worlds

Still hand-in-hand

Still side-by-side

We'll watch our pasts unfurled.

We kissed under these branches

We played among this hay.

If we’d had all the answers

We’d have lost them on the way.
