Pounding
The Feet Hit The Pavement
Thumping The Tarmac
Glisten in the Rain,
Blister in the Heat.
Sweat clinging to every fibre
Soaked cotton jerseys
Stuck to damp skin.
Drumming of sneakers
On heat-baked floors
California sunshine
Glinting on dark glasses
Keep up with the rhythm
Never out of sync
Keep time with the city
Roaring cars set the pace
Their vibrations on the pavement
Rattle of rollerblades
Deviating from the beat
The Runner;
So focused
Intensity in his eyes
His brow, his shoulders
The movement of his arms
The extention and contraction of his calves
Swerving between pedestrians
His feet a vehicle of their own.
