What is the obsession? Isn’t the obsession more unhealthy than eating unhealthy anyway? We see it in the magazines, it’s advertised on TV (especially at this time of year, for all of us who ate a little too much turkey at Christmas!) about how to have the perfect bum, how to tone those chicken wings and lets not forget that mid drift. We are continually being pumped with how to look! Why don’t we ever see the title - I quit! Fergie schmergie! I hate fibre, I love Mallomars?

This weekend, Easter weekend none the less I’ve had to evaluate my bad eating habits. Now, lets not lie, we all have them! Some of us eat too much, some too little, some the wrong type of foods and others hardly ever! Some of us eat for comfort, some because we get the shakes if we don’t! Me, I fall between too little, and the wrong types of food.

But what is the obsession? Isn’t the obsession more unhealthy than eating unhealthy anyway? We see it in the magazines, it’s advertised on TV (especially at this time of year, for all of us who ate a little too much turkey at Christmas!) about how to have the perfect bum, how to tone those chicken wings and lets not forget that mid drift. We are continuously being pumped with how to look! Why don’t we ever see the title - I quit! Fergie schmergie! I hate fibre, I love Mallomars?

Moving on… Being Easter, and me being at the grand age of 27, I doubted joining in with the kids on their Easter egg hunts, or receiving chocolate, in fact I doubted getting anything this Friday except paid! Which I am quite glad about because the resources where getting rather low. Which leads my nicely into my first bad habit - ‘winging it’ when I can’t afford to go food shopping! I just throw anything together, live of 20p packs of noodles, or better yet have a bowel of cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Again, what is the obsession? Well, for me it’s about being rebellious because I’m actually allergic to certain foods, the list includes wheat, gluten and lactose. So why, you must ask would my favourite food be cereal? Surly this would make me ill? You’re right, it does. And this weekend I was ill because I was an absolute arse and didn’t eat properly during my 2 night shifts. I only slept about 5 hours in between which is an obvious factor also, but I‘m working on staying in bed longer.

So anyway, during this time, a 3 days span, I think I ate 3 bowels of cereal and a handful of biscuits. So now you see, I have good reason to change my bad eating habits… even if just a little.

Habits to change include: NOT storing a box of chocolate (that I NEVER touch) in my room for emergencies, not drinking a cup of tea instead of having lunch, making sure I eat a full dinner whilst working shifts and the most important is to stop eating those foods I’m allergic to.

I haven’t eaten for roughly 30 hours now, and I’m about to try a dry piece of rye bread, fingers crossed it will be OK.

I urge you all to take a look at your eating habits, and establish what is good and bad. Don’t diet, they never work. Don’t stop eating, that is worse than eating too much! Balance is the key (look who’s talking Sherlock - I know), eat biscuits enjoy your chocolate, allow yourself treats and don’t take everything you read to seriously. Remember thatit was most likely written by someone who was in the office, eating a chocolate bar and drinking coffee through a straw!

I would continue, but I am boring myself and I can only assume that’s a bad sign for anyone who has read the whole of this - apologies! May we all enjoy our breakfast, lunch and dinner from here on and always!

(On next weeks thought of they day, I'll be expressing my opinion on Yorkie bars, and why they aren't for girls!)
