….. The party was in full swing, I picked up my drink and walked out into the chilly November evening air. There was snow drifting in the air making it feel a little more like the holidays. the sound of laughter and Dad on Karaoke made me look around as the door from the den opened.

"I was looking for you" My sister said shivering and drawing her thick cardigan around her against the winter wind "God it's freezing out here" she blew into her hands

"It feels good it reminds you you're still alive" I smiled closing my eyes and tilting my head back

"Makes me feel like I need to be on a tropical island" she moaned as her teeth chattered "Next year you guys are coming to Bora Bora with Jason and I for Christmas"

"I'll start saving now" I laughed nudging her with my arm

"Seriously you know you don't have to pay and Jason has the company jet he can use" She sighed putting her arm around me and resting her head on my shoulder "You know my husband thinks the world of our Family they knock his alcoholic family into fits" she frowned

"I know" I took a deep breath "It still blows my mind Jen that you ever found a man to deal with you" I teased

"Gee thank Sis" She playfully punched me "Jason is one in a million" she got such a look of love in her eyes as she spoke about her husband "He works so hard"

"You both do and that's why you can afford Bora Bora for Christmas" I was so proud and in awe of my big sister. Jenny was six years older than me and had been married for ten years to a man who when she met was flipping burgers to get through college. They had fallen in love instantly and married within three months of meeting and they pooled what money they had together and set up an internet security company. They worked sixteen hour days it begin with but it paid off and their business exploded within two years, making them extremely wealthy but both of them still grounded.

"Hey you two are missing the party and Damn it's getting colder out here" Rob stood in the door from the house

Rob was our little brother or the family Opps as Jen and I liked to tease him as he was only eleven months younger than I was. He stood Six two and was built like a linebacker but when you make it into the NFL as a linebacker then I suppose it's a good thing. He'd married his high school sweetheart Rebecca as soon as he'd finished college which was a good job because we loved her like another sister from when they were kids and we were willing to disown him and have Mom and Dad adopt her instead.

"We're coming in" Jen laughed before she looked at me "I'm sorry I  moved to Florida so I didn't have to deal with this damn frigid weather anymore" she moved to step away from me but paused and reached out to squeeze my arm first and sighed.

"Hey Grey you coming?" Rob shouted as Jenny walked by him back into the warmth of the house.

"In a minute" I nodded

"Okay don't be too long alright, Rebecca is making the warm winter wine" I smiled at him

"Save me a cup alright" He nodded and closed the door I walked around the yard and stopped at the old tyre swing and pushed it we'd all spent so much time playing on it as kids we'd all had special memories in this yard.

"Grey Meredith Ramsey it's ten degrees out here and you are not wearing a coat" I jumped as Mom yelled at me like I was five "You'll catch your death out here"

"I'm coming" I smiled and walked back to the house.

"Look at you" Mom fudded as she brushed the light snow from my hair and shoulders

"Mom... I'm fine" I held her hands she sighed deeply and tipped her head to the side "Mom don't give me that look Please" I groaned "I am fine" I assured her, I kissed her cheek as the sound of laughter came from the living room "Now Rob said Becky made some warm wine" I let go of her hands and walked out of the kitchen, the sympathetic looks were beginning to irritate me a little.

"Hey honey" Dad smiled at me in the all to the living room "Your brother found out the old twister in the basement and has got a game going on in there"

"Oh he cheats at that and he's got unfair advantage with his height" I laughed shaking my head remembering the fights we'd gotten into over that game.

"I’m going to get some more chips you go and stop your sister from killing him" Dad walked by me and into the kitchen. Mom had her hands braced on the counter and her head down "Katie?" He walked over to her and put his hand on her shoulder, she looked up with tears brimming in her eyes "What's wrong?" He pulled her to him

"Grey" She sniffed Dad sighed and held her tighter to him

"Katie you can't let her see you like this" he lightly scolded her "She wants her life to get back to being as normal as possible or she'd sink in to such a dark place no one could help her" he coughed to clear the lump in his own throat "She's a strong girl and even though she hurts she's coping in her own way and you know she has bad days but she reaches out to us and her brother and sister when she needs to lean on us" he dropped a kiss on her head

"I know but I worry when we are altogether like this, that shes' going to hurt more and struggle more" mom pulled away from him and lifted the lid on the crock pot and stirred the stew. "Rob has Rebecca, Jenny had Jason and you have me, both your parents and mine will be here in the next few days"

"Katie" Dad snapped a little "Do you not think Grey misses Ethan each and everyday regardless and she doesn't begrudge anyone an ounce of happiness" He turned and pulled a beer from the fridge "He was a soldier and unfortunately not making it home alive is something all our military face when they are deployed"….......
