I walked down the same streets most of my life
See all the familiar faces all smiling and bright
Saying there goes the girl that was raised right
Wrapped in the perfect bubble staying away from the light
But something was shining deeper inside me
Like a moth to that light - it was my life
And we call that "those teenage years"
Compressed and filed in the catagorey of fear and rebellion
Like having your own opinion is pushing against them
and one hundred to one means the grounds your bestfriend.
So don't even try to dig in - just give in and put that lovely smile back on your face.
So for ninteen years that what I'd do.
Sit in those dark corners - silent and mute,
Then I found you.
The doors opened free
And from those doors stood a world that welcomed me for me
So we took down roads that have never been taken
Said all the feelings that had never been worth saying
And when I thought it was all too good to be true
All their reactions got a hold of you
I would like to believe they pulled you away
That no matter how much you screamed and kicked and pleaded to stay
They wouldn't let you
But that's one hell of a lie from the truth
You don't have the scars to show the story.
Abandoned on the road you left me
and now I'm cold.
When I'm lonely, or sad, or happy - I think of you
Which is more often then I wish
I think of what an amazing thing I would have missed
If I kept to those same roads
And did what I was told
Lived a life without ever being bold
But now I've found new roads
And I'll continue down them
Thanks to you.
