This is just a little poem I have written about a sea trader and his risky decision.

All of us had set out together,

Into the deeep mysterious sea,

To meet our distant destinies,

In the rich lands of Pondicherry.

We were a skillful lot,

And each had their own ship,

The wind and the heavenly sky,

Were the only companions of our trip.

The journey was tedious and long,

As the waves struck against my vessel's wood,

I hit upon a brilliant idea, observing my map,

"There could be another route."

Us traders used to ferry through the Mediterranean,

And time was as precious as gold,

"Lets go round the depths of Africa!"

No, was the reply stern and cold.

I had enough, my life yearned for something else,

I separated from my flock,

My ship's sails turned south,

But I feared that I may never find the Indian dock.

For days on end did I travel,

Sometimes lonely, sometimes hungry,

The dark clouds had become tyrants,

And suddenly, I wanted to be free.

But it was too late,

The wind ripped apart my sails,

My vessel rocked back and forth,

Only the sea heard my wails.

All of a sudden, a smile played across my face,

I had already made a big decision,

No going back now,

It was my courage that took me to my ambition.

It always takes courage to sail against the wind,

and courage is only among few,

Few who decide to seek horizons,

And to discover something new.

Alas! Fate had something else in mind,

But this watery grave was better,

Than to live with the pain of being a coward,

And to die an unsatisfied Portuguese trader.
