Maggots rippled beneath her charred skin, their lithe, plump forms writhing as they fed. I reached a finger down, stroking one area of her flesh where a larger amount of the worms wriggled, desperate for the large sum of meat still available in that area. The feeling of them moving under my finger made my teeth clench and my nerve endings throb with effort, trying to make me recoil. My breathing became raspy and rough as I tried to prevent myself from emptying my stomach, when I noticed a gaping hole in her side where the maggots had chewed through the surface of her skin in search of muscle and fat. My finger trailed along her supple skin to where the hole was. I lifted my hand to my lips then, and flicked my tongue across my crimson-tipped finger. A metallic taste washed over my tongue, and I spat at the ground, now disgusted with myself. As I wiped my bloodied finger on my jeans, the smell of rotting flesh suddenly became more prominent. Nearby, I noticed another woman, laying in what appeared to be a bed, more recently deceased. Only a few maggots lay atop her bloated stomach, probing through the softening flesh for entrance to the more appealing meat inside.
