Gaining Wings

A butterfly has not always been a butterfly. Before it gained its magnificent wings it was a caterpillar. The caterpillar needed to learn about many things before it could weave its cocoon and wait to learn how to fly. At the beginning of the school year I was this caterpillar. I had so much to learn, even though I thought I knew it all. I know now that before you walk, you need to crawl, before you live, you must be born. And before you know, you need to know. There were times this year I have fallen. Like a caterpillar falling off a low branch of a tree. There were times I thought it was the end. Then I thought harder and was able to climb right back up. Now the school year is almost over and I am looking back at everything I have learned. I am the caterpillar in its cocoon. I know that when that last bell finally rings on that last day of school I will break free from my cocoon and fly away. My personality will show through the colors of my wings. I will be guided by the wings. For this I must thank all my teachers, because without them, I would not be where I am now. I would still be a caterpillar trying to find its wings.
