Poem inspired Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

Huxley imagined a "Utopian" society where babies were bred into a caste system, and all emotions were purged in a society built around casual sex and drug use to keep them from forming any actual bonds with one another. He originally envisioned the society hundreds of years in the future (written 1930s), though 15 years later, he revised this assessment and said, "Today it seems quite possible that the horror may be upon us within a century."

\"Soma\" // Need to get my soma // Fills the void, kills the pain // Feel the glorious rush in the veins // Need to get my soma // I feel stress, feel some doubt // I just want to forget all that about... // Need to get my soma // The bright pretty colors I want to stay // The dark of reality please just go away // Need to get my soma // It's killing my body every single day. // But the worst effect--it bleeds my soul away. // I don't care just have to have my soma... // I'll trade my humanity to be mindlessly happy until I die. // The road to happiness is wracked with pain: the cost is far too high.
