The waves come crashing hard against the smooth nearly perfect stone.

The water is cold and loud

Roaring like the mystery that it keeps and holds tight beneath its depths.

I'm terrified of drowning...

The sky- a misty smoke grey backdrop, empty with wonder. The booming waves, its only companion--the theme song for the "mood."

The ocean is a place where people can find inner peace, ask questions, hope for right answers.

I never liked the ocean.

Its enormity frightens me and visions of entering and never coming back flood my mind as the salty night air begins to suffocate me.

But somehow I find myself there--on nights like tonight, with the summer wind howling and I don't know why.

I stand below a jagged cliff and look up.

I walk barefoot, over the chilled and hardened grains of sand, feeling each grain small and round against my skin, and I watch...

I wait for something - not yet knowing what.

A shooting star bursts out of the sky against a velvet midnight canvas.

A cosmic shock to a daydreaming lover.

In that moment when the fiery star combusts--I know why I am there.

I desperately want to enter the liquid mystery before me, still afraid of never coming back.

I hesitate.

Finally I close my eyes and step in.

The waves crash hard against my bare ankles.

Tiny wet needles hitting into my skin.

Eyes closed...

Heart beating wildly against my chest.

I continue farther and deeper into the unknown, with the thundering waves colliding into the rocks behind me, now sounding like hushed whispers, wind-filled breaths summonsing me to come back...

Too late, I'm in.
