One Later
“Savannah Auburn and Liz Matthews?” the teacher announced looking around the room.
“Yes?” Liz and I both answered.
“You two have passes to the principal’s office,” Mrs. White said in an austere tone.
Liz and I looked at each other then slowly packed up our stuff. As I looked towards Mrs. White with my irresoluting eyes, I felt a sudden perfidy fall over me. Then I wondered if Liz and I had done something culpable at school. Liz had gotten up before I could, my mind was still too busy panicking and thinking that we were both in some type of trouble.
“Savannah?” Liz motioned for me, “Come on!” She then walked over to my desk, grabbed my hand, and pulled me stalwartly out the classroom door. “What was that about Savannah? I mean if we were in any kind of trouble the principal would have came and gotten us himself. But he didn’t do that, so we aren’t in trouble. Now relax!”
I looked at her, and then glared, I wanted to reprove her for pulling me out of the classroom, but I knew it would not do any good. “Okay well, then what crass reason did we get these passes for? If we didn’t do anything wrong then there isn’t any reason to talk to Mr. Fitz.”
“I’m not sure, I guess we are about to find out,” Liz replied as we stood in front of the door that read, Principal’s Office, Mr. Fitz. “Open the door Savannah,” she whispered as she nudged me to the door.
When I opened the door, Mr. Fitz was talking to a taller man with brown hair dressed in dark jeans and a black and dark blue shirt.
“Who is that?” Liz whispered.
“I’m not sure,” I replied. “Hi, Mr. Fitz.”
“Hello girls!” He exclaimed. “Savannah, Liz, this is Scooter Braun.”
“Hey,” Liz and I said torpidly studying the man from head to toe.
Then it hit me, “wait aren’t you Chaz Somers manager?” I asked.
“Yes, that is who I am,” Scooter smiled widely.” Girls, you both might want to take a seat.”
Liz and I took a seat in the two chairs that sat at a small rectangular, wooden table.  I turned to look at her and she looked at me. Then we turned back to look at Scooter Braun who was sitting across from us next to Mr. Fitz. They exchanged looks, but from the look on Liz’s face I could tell that the exchange had disconcerted her and much as it did me.
“So why are we here exactly? We aren’t in any type of trouble right?” I questioned getting really nervous.
“Ha! Ha! Ha!” Mr. Fitz roared with laughter. “No, no, no, you two are not in any kind of trouble. Scooter just wants to talk to you and Liz, Savannah. Scooter would you like to begin.”
“Okay, well, Savannah and Liz, since you both know who I am and what my job is, you are probably wondering why I am here and what I have to say,” Scooter began.
“Yes…” Liz was starting to become anxious.
“So, you two made a YouTube channel last July of 2010, posting videos of the both of you novices singing together,” Scooter added.
“Yes, we did. Why?” I asked, now sitting on the edge of my chair.
“Well, about a month ago Chaz came across you videos and showed them to me,” Scooter Braun stated. “But, problem was we had no idea how to get in contact with you both. So, finally last week we got in contact with you school and Mr. Fitz here. Chaz and I went into a full stalker mode here, only because he really wants you two to…oh wait. What did he tell me? Hmmm…I guess I forgot.” Scooter mashed his eyebrows together and rubbed his chin.
I looked over at Liz, her jaw was wide open and her skin looked almost cadaverous. I think it was because she was in such a state of shock. She never said a word because I could tell she was being very punctilious so she would not end up prating.
“Oh,” I sighed.
“But I’m sure someone else could tell you,” Scooter grinned.
At the moment Scooter’s cell phone rang. “Savannah, I think it’s for you and Liz,” and at the moment my heart started to race at one hundred miles an hour.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Hi, I’m guessing this is Savannah or Liz, because this is definitely not Scooter. Am I right?” The young male voice laughed.
“This is Savannah, who is this?” I titled my head.
“Hey Savannah, is Liz there too?” The young male voice now asked.
“Yeah she is actually,” I replied with a dispassionate tone.
“She might want to hear what I’m about to say too,” the voice laughed again.
I put the phone on speaker, “Okay mystery guy you are on speaker, everyone can hear you now, including Liz,” I said while Scooter laughed.
“Savannah, Liz, this is Chaz Somers! Right now I am almost positive you two are either flipping out or wondering why Scooter Braun is at your school, maybe even why you’re on the phone with me. To make this short and sweet, I was wondering if you both would like to go on my tour with me,” Chaz finished.
“Oh my gosh! Are you serious? Yes, of course! We’d love to do that!” I exclaimed as I jumped out of my seat along with Liz while Scooter and Mr. Fitz sat there laughing at our reactions.
“Yes! Yes! Yes! A million times yes!” Liz shouted. It also looked as if she were about to pass out at any second, if she could. Then I would be the one that would end up having to resuscitate her.
“Good! I’ll see you both of you in L.A. in one week, hopefully. Can’t wait!” Chaz laughed. “Bye Savannah and Liz!”
“Bye Chaz and thank you!” Liz and I exclaimed.
“You’re welcome,” he replied then the phone went silent.
“Oh. My. Gosh! That did not just happen! Savannah, we just talked to Chaz Somers and he invited us to go on his tour with him!” Liz was jumping up and down.
Wow was all I managed to say. Liz and I will be going on tour with Chaz Somers. “Thank you Scooter!” I smiled and ran around the table to give him a hug, Liz did the same.
“Well, Savannah and Liz, now you two should pack up you lockers and say your goodbyes to your friends and teachers. You both with be flown to L.A. next Wednesday,” Scooter suggested.
“I’m making a hypothetical guess here and saying that our parents are probably one hundred percent clueless about all of this,” I stated.
“Actually, Savannah, they do know about all of this. I talked to your parents and Liz’s this morning and they all agreed on letting you go,” Scooter exchanged another look with Mr. Fitz.
So my supposition had been wrong about our parents, which lifted a bit of the weight off my shoulders. Only problem now was telling this to all of my friends.
“This is crazy!” Liz grinned.
“Mr. Fitz, can Liz and I tell the school about this today during study hall sixth hour?” I asked hoping that he would say…
“Of course Savannah! I will also excuse you and Savannah from your fifth and sixth hours. Now go clean out your lockers,” Mr. Fitz was ecstatic, which was easy to pick up with his adulation towards us.
Liz and I thanked Mr. Fitz and Scooter, who had given us his number and Chaz’s. We then made our way to our lockers. Thinking about leaving all of my friends and school behind was really sad, but in the end I guess anyone could say it would hopefully be worth it.
When we reached our slovenly lockers, we both recapitulated everything that had just happened to us quietly.
As I was cleaning my locker, every time I took a picture off it felt like I was just debasing it slowly to an absolute bareness or something totally unimportant. Locker 517 had so many pictures in it, so many memories, so much of my crap that would take hours to clean out, but I was mine.
By the time we finished cleaning out our lockers for good we had an hour until we made our announcement to the entire school. So Liz and I decided to waste time by walking around the school thinking of some of the memories we had made our freshman, sophomore, and most of our junior year.
Before we both knew it the bell had rang and fifth hour was over. “Attention all students and staff please report to the auditorium,” Mr. Fitz said over the loud speaker.
All of the students ran intemperately to the auditorium, pushing and shoving, just to get a good spot that was not too close to the front. I could have personally have gone without the pushing and shoving. It gave me a certain redoubtable feeling for my life’s safety.
Mr. Fitz led Liz and I backstage, where we could hear everyone talking to each other, and  questioning why they were here.
“Attention. Attention students and staff,” Mr. Fitz said calmly, but no one listened. “Attention! Attention!” He now yelled in an acrimonious tone. The whole auditorium went silent and Mr. Fitz continued, “There is some very important news that two of your school mates would like to share with all of you. Savannah, Liz, now is your time to shine.”
Liz and I exchanged looks, took a deep breath, giggled the slightest amount, and then walked on stage. In a nice, beneficent way the audience gave us a very susceptible round of applause.
When the clapping died down, I began, “As most of you probably know, Liz and I have been posting videos of us singing on YouTube for almost a year now,” I then tried to make our news as dilatory as I possibly could.
“Today Savannah and I got some really big new that will take us far in life, but away from this school and most our friends,” Liz added while I looked out into the audience that seemed very nebulous from all of the lights that were focused on Liz and I. I felt almost vulnerable because I could not see anyone or anything past the edge of the stage. For all we knew there could end up being a complete odium towards us, because we get to tour with Chaz Somers or maybe even a certain avarice and someone would do anything to get it from us. “Ummm… Savannah?” Liz whispered.
“Oh, sorry, anyways,” I paused, listening to the whispering going on fifteen feet away from where Liz and I were standing. From the sound of it, everyone seemed to be getting squeamish. “So, Liz and I were given slips to see Mr. Fitz during fourth hour today, we both thought that we were in some type of trouble. Little did we know what was about to happen when we walked through his door,” I paused again and looked over at Liz who mouthed the words, “keep going.” I smiled at the thoughts and continued, “When Liz and I walked in, and a taller man was talking to Mr. Fitz. His name was Scooter Braun,” I heard more whispering and a lot of gasps. “He came here to talk to Liz and I about our videos on YouTube. Apparently, Chaz Somers came across them and wants us to go on his tour with him,” at that a huge smile spread across my face as I heard the reaction of over nine hundred people only fifteen feet away.
“Savannah and I leave for L.A. next week Wednesday, but today is our last day at school here. We wanted to share this with all of you, because we thought that you all should know the truth and thank you for everything. We will visit when we can. That is a promise to all of you that Savannah and I will keep.” Liz finished, while every rose from their seats and cheered. It would be that moment that we would remember for the rest of our lives.
“I guess this is it,” I smiled looking out into the crowd.
“”Yeah it is, it really is,” Liz replied.

One week later, Liz and I were on a plane on our way to L.A. to meet up with Chaz Somers and Scooter Braun to start Chaz’s United States tour.
One year later, after posting over thirty videos on our YouTube channel, we were seen and discovered. Now, both Liz and I have reached our dream goal.
One performance later, Liz and I were signed with The Island Def Jam Music Group thanks to Scooter Braun and especially Chaz Somers.
