Listening and watching reports about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, has brought chills to my body. I was a young girl when the Exxon catastrophe happened; all I remember is that a lot of people were mad, and the oil giant had lost its valor. What happened earlier this week with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, is unbelievable. I had to post this picture of this bird soaked in oil; I mean what if this was your child?

Thinking about the devastation headed towards the state of Louisiana, and other cities by the coastline, I begin to wonder, if this is another prophetic warning, since Hurricane Katrina: We need to change as a country regarding how we treat the environment and its natural resources.

I saw a picture last night online where a scientist was trying to clean off a bird, engulfed with oil fumes, and covered in its thickness. Tears almost came to my eyes as I looked at the bird's eyes. His large colorful eyes spoke of disgust, and innocence--which were the only elements from his fragile body that could speak to anyone literally.

I then began to wonder how environmentally savvy I have been in my first three years of my thirties. I definitely know that since moving in this new era of my life, I think differently and feel hurt when nature is demolished due to man's selfishness.

After visiting Ghana, West Africa, breathing clean air, eating foods that were free of pesticides, seeing green trees all day (which gives the body a boost of energy) and how well my body adapted to the environment, led me to believe once returning to the United States that we are doomed.

One thing is for sure that if we do not get our act together, we are going under, quicker than the Book of Revelations attests (it says we are to go by fire). By the look of things, we are going to perish because man feels that he has dominion over nature, to do as he pleases, and that has always been half-ass backwards.

This oil spill, is deemed to be worse than Exxon and could wipe out natural habitats on the coastal lines of Louisiana. According to news reports, people are not in danger right now, animals are. I do believe that they were created before humans, and that says a lot to me in my book when I think about the creation of the earth.

No, I am not a scientist, but I do have a grievance with this matter. And, this is my public service announcement: The environment is our friend not our foe.

Check out the film trailer There Will Be Blood starring Daniel Day Lewis. It tells the history of our oil consumption in the United States and the evil it has brought our way.
