Sometimes one would think that making decisions are easy. However, it is easy to do if you choose to make the best decision that fits your life. Day by day I am realizing that knowing who you are, and surviving, in spite of the complications of being an writer-artist in America, is my journey for life.
We are living in a time when technology is moving at a speed that no one expected, or can catch up too. Jobs are scarce, politicians are not getting along, our economy has collapsed, and there is no cultural cohesiveness amongst our nation. I have been waking up everyday wondering if I could write about the news that I see-hear, and find the good through it all--I have too now.
I decided to let something go and be what I want in the world--seriously. There is no time like the present to do what you love; all bets are on you. I resigned from a position on Monday that I had been at for a year. It became clear days earlier that it was time to make *bold moves. There are times in life when you don't know the next answer, or where something is coming from, still you have to do it .
That \"it\" can only be defined by you. I have talked to countless individuals over the past few weeks, absorbing their knowledge, and the manifestation of it all: We are all having to remake ourselves in this new era. With the fall of capitalism, reinventing the wheel is an after statement. You have to be the wheel that you want to move.
I have always been dedicated to everything that I do in life and never want to just up and go. Sometimes you have too. No one should have to become less of who they are for the sake of saving someone else's ego trips or to pay the bills. We are all human and deserve respect. We all deserve to achieve the unthinkable, and possess a legacy. We all deserve to be ourselves.
The key to knowing what to do, is by doing what you feel is natural, and makes you whole. I believe that writing is just in my genes. It is a D.N.A. that runs through my entire family. I have thought about this for some time, and this battle I will no longer wage with myself: Writing is My Shyt-- even if American Culture does not respect it's valor.
I think the best decision to make when in doubt is to do what you love to do. \"You can make it happen, and be what you please,\" according to Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Jill Scott. Even though there is a lot of disparity across the globe right now, this too shall pass. I know that, what I know, should count for something.
I am taking a long walk, not looking back.
