I turn around in circles, my arms stretched out at my sides as far as they can reach, wishing I could take flight into the frigid sky. I run through the meadow knowing that he’ll be there waiting for me. I jump over the small streams that gleam in the early sunlight that is beginning to warm my pale skin. I see the animals of spring taking care of their newly born babies and pluck a wild rose from its place in the soil. I kiss my fingers and lay them on the spot the flower once grew. I continued through the meadow, my white dress spilling over my thighs and flowing behind me as I freely make my way to him. The flowers that cover the ground around me are all the colors of the rainbow, brilliant reds, blues and yellows. This is our place, and forever will be. I see him standing by a tall cherry tree and stop to watch him a few yards away. He hasn’t noticed me yet. I see his sun kissed skin and bright golden hair. He turns slowly toward me and a slow, warm smile transforms his face. My Christopher. I smile back and run to him, jumping into his arms. He holds me tight and we spin under the tree, the cherry blossoms swirling with us. We sit there under the tree, playing with the bright green grass between our fingers. We lace our hands and stare out at the horizon. Nothing but flowers and the true beauty of nature. I touch his cheek and marvel over how soft his skin is. He looks at me with his pale grey eyes. We continue to lie like that until the sun starts to set and the air begins to cool off. My heart is filled with more joy followed by a pang of sadness as we walk together through the meadow. We stop as the trail converges into our two different paths home. He whispers in my ear, a sweet promise that I will never forget; “No matter where these paths will lead us, fate will always bring us back together.” We kiss goodbye, and I dream of the day he comes home from war, so very many miles away from here.
