Summary

Are killers just about blood and guts? Do they feel guilt? Do they have boundaries or morals?

 She struggles,
She fights,
She cries,
She screams and shouts;
And finally,
She dies.

He snuck up from behind,
She was lost in her thoughts.
A blow to the head,
She falls on impact.
Fragile skull cracks.
Blood oozes.
Attacker chooses
To finish the job.
His trusty knife
Embeds itself inside her chest,
Laying her at unpeaceful rest.

Emerging,
He stands tall
In the crisp dawn air.
Lighting a cigarette,
He notices minor injuries;
A bleeding nose,
A split lip,
A grazed arm.
All small prices
For taking her life.

Exhaling,
Abandoning the evidence.
He walks away
From the blame.
Cold is his heart.
Heavy are his shoulders.

The burden
Eats him alive.
The guilt
Threatens to kill him.
A short term hunger,
For pain and chaos
Lasts only while he
Slices,
Slashes,
Cuts
And kills.

Dial tone.
999,
What's your emergency?
I'm a terrible man,
Please kill me,
Like I've done so many others.
Make this demon submit,
Kill the psychopath within me.

Save me from myself.
Please.
Just kill me.
