I don’t wear anything around my neck

No precious necklaces with deep meanings

No symbols representing my beliefs

No comical ties gifted from close ones

I don’t wear anything around my neck

Instead,

I have the abstract coiled around it

The concealed, the unreal, the intricate

I don’t wear anything around my neck

But am weighed down by the invisible

Unbeknown to others but felt by me

Vibrant streams of thoughts weaving through my skin

I don’t wear anything around my neck

Despite feeling the high anxiety

Hanging, extant, never quite letting go

Like a knot, refusing to unloosen

I don’t wear anything around my neck

But decorate myself with mirror shards

Wrapped around my throat, reflecting my flaws

Boring into me at each small mistake

I don’t wear anything around my neck

Only tangled fears and expectations

Doubts of the past and dreads of the future

Stuck living in the flow of the present

I wear everything around my neck

Although it is not the weight of these things

That can determine who I am because

As long as I breathe, I hope
