“Do we have a deal?” Michael asked when I didn’t respond.

Even though I didn’t throw my head back in helplessness, I did sigh. “Even though I’m going to go completely against my will, I am a girl who keeps promises and always holds up my end of the deal. So, I will go with you—as friends—and, just out of courtesy, I’ll do my best to try and have a good time.” I said finally and deliberately. I decided on the spot that I was going to be completely honest.

I was going to kill Maddi. I had no idea why this was working out so well in her favor but if she turned out to have something to do with Michael’s whole “knight in shining armor wanna-be” act, then she would so be dead.

Jessica Walters did not need a guy even though her best friend thinks otherwise. Reacting on her "best friend's instincts" Maddi Beckworth takes life out of Jess's hands and hooks her up with THE most popular guy in school. Little knowing what she's done, Maddi has unknowingly thrust her best friend into a world where a war that has been going on for decades revolves around Jess.

Be warned, joining Jess in her adventure will be dangerous. The Dark Stars have their sources of finding these things out. Proceed with caution.

“There’s a second part to my deal,”

I looked at him sharply. This guy had to be kidding. If he were going to ask to go somewhere private “just to talk”, then I would send him off this deck.

But he was highly amused at my reaction as I glared at him. “May I have your number just in case?” he asked, looking smug for some reason.
