Crash! Another plate against the wall.
I close my eyes, clutch tightly to my doll.
Slam! Another door closed in anger.
I sit up in bed wondering if there's real danger?
"I'm leaving this!" You yell as my mother cries.
I see your packed suitcase and part of me dies.
At six, my logic isn't quite right.
As I grab your bag and hold on tight.
You look down with eyes just like mine,
"Let go baby, please don't whine."
Tears cloud my sight
I shake my head,
Hold on with all my might.
"Daddy don't go."
I beg and plead.
"Daddy, I love you.
Please don't leave!"
You wait for a moment,
Considering my face.
But then you kiss my head,
And pull back your case.
Did you hear that sound?
As you left out the door?
That's my heart breaking.
Why don't you care anymore?
Sixteen years pass
I now have a man of my own.
And though I say I'm happy,
I'm always going to be alone.
The woman I am now
Do you even want to know her?
Tell me the truth now,
Daughter to father.
