My nephew, my Connor,
Finally you have arrived.
My angel, my family,
Thank God you are alive!
Perfect in your simplicity,
Resting happily in your mother's arm.
Wonderful in your complexity,
My world now exists to keep you from harm.
"This is your aunt Summer,"
My brother says holding him to me,
"Summer, this is Connor,"
My fingers rise up, but only touch screen.
For you decided to grace this world when I was gone away,
To lands across the sea.
You've opened your soft eyes,
And for the first time fully saw me.
Our embrace was not of flesh and bone,
But of cyber and cold, unfeeling net.
My eyes see you, but my arms can't reach you,
On this blissful night we've met.
Connor, how do you give love so freely?
When so often this world has no light?
How do you see things so clearly?
When the rest of us have lost this sight?
Now I am sure,
Like never before,
That you have come to give this world reason.
I'll hold you with the changing of the seasons.
My nephew, my Connor
