Pseudo Marriage.

Poem by: ladygothicka

Summary

I dated this guy called Josh from December 2007 - August 2008. This poem is basically our relationship in a nutshell. He did propose and I did accept, but he asked me to choose between him and my family. I chose my family. He didn't like it, so he cheated and I dumped him. Hard to do, but worth it in the end.

We knew each other for all of
twenty minutes before you
asked me to be your girlfriend.
I accepted - after all, I was single
and looking for a man to love me.

I thought I'd found him in you.

For eight months, we were inseparable.
You showered me with love and
laughter, little gifts that you knew I'd
adore. What went so wrong? Well, you
asked me to marry you after four months.

I said yes, foolish child that I was.

Four months on from the day we met,
I was pretending to be engaged to you.
My parents were torn down the middle
by my foolish acceptance, all because I
was too blind to see what you were doing.

You used me for your own gratification.

It wasn't enough to have my love, you
wanted me to make you my everything.
When I refused, you left me. How could
I ever have loved you when you wanted
to control me?

I held my head high and I told the world the truth.

My engagement was a falsehood. You had
never loved me, and I had never loved you.
I cut you out of my heart and my life. Our
pseudo marriage ended the day you told me
to choose between you and my family.

You should have known I'd always choose my family.

I will never leave my family for anyone. Not
even for my soulmate - I would rather lose
him than my family, simply because they need
me more than anyone else ever could. That's why
I ended our pseudo marriage with no regrets.

I am not your slave. You are not my husband.
Our pseudo marriage is finally over forever.
