The Dead Bell.

Poem by: ladygothicka

Summary

I read a poem of the same name by Sylvia Plath, and it got me thinking. I liked the result, I hope you do too!

The dead bell tolls no more -
why should it toll when there
are no people to hear it ring?
There it hangs, in the church,
a lost relic from ages past.

What a joy it must have been,
to hear it of a Sunday morn!
Weddings, births, deaths ... the
dead bell was glorified once.

The dead bell tolls no more, for
no-one cares to hear it sing
again. Gathering dust and
mould, it ages and fades 'til
not even the memories remain.

The dead bell has no place
here - no voice with which to
voice its plea for succour.
The dead bell can toll
no more nowadays.
