Summary

I found the last two lines in the novel "It" by Stephen King. They stuck in my mind and this is what came out.

He thrusts his fists against the bars
and still insists he sees the ghosts.
The doctors sedate him, hiding the
screams that haunt his daytimes
and mock his nights. He is there
because he is insane, sent over the
edge by events that happened over
twenty-eight years ago in a place he
can no longer remember.

The nurses try to understand, but they
can't see what he can see. They can't hear
the screams of his friends and family as the
monster rips their limbs apart, they will
never see the terror on the faces of the
passers-by as each person is murdered, their
blood a sacrifice to an unmentionable god.

Every night he prays the dream will not
come, and every night his prayer is not
answered. He weeps and does not know why,
he screams and suffers for the crime another
man committed. But most of all, he feels guilty
because he could not save the ones he loved the
most.

He thrusts his fists against the bars
and still insists he sees the ghosts.
