Puppet Strings

I wrote this poem at age 15. I think this poem can speak truth into the lives of anyone who has ever felt alone and controlled.

She was but a lonely girl,

isolated in the world.

Attached to her were puppet strings.

These limited her to so many things.

She tried to be different,

but to them she was the same.

They ignored her cries for attention-

her cries for fame.

Corners she went to,

in shadows she did hide.

She wanted a peaceful place to live,

to this the world denied.

She desired a puppet companion,

one to call a friend.

Maybe if she wasn't lonely,

she could move and bend.

She looked out from her window,

into the open world.

She wondered what would happen,

if she were a real girl.

She longed to have senses-

to touch, to feel, to cry.

But that was impossible-

she couldn't even try

Oh, this was quite sad; she wants to be free, be able to do things for herself, but she's trapped; she can only go so far before the strings pull her back; before the problems overcome her. This was so simply put, but beautifully written, and I like the metaphor of the stringed puppet. The last line was quite abrupt; a statement that she couldn't do it or anything she wanted. Really good job with this :)

That was really nice. The rhyme was lovely and it had such a sad feel to it. The last line was really touching, because it had such a desolateness and loss of all hope to it.
