Memories: Mr. Softee

It’s early in the day,

But the sun has risen already.

People are going to beaches and vacations.

A season to stay outdoors

And enjoy the rays,

Salt waters,

Or even some showers.

Schools are closed, but some attend for the summer.

Season of half-nakedness and air conditioned homes.

Season of Mr. Softee, neighborhood ice cream vendor.

The white mobile slowly passes

Into streets like a celebrity.

Kids of every hue as well as adults

Lining up for ice cream!

How would anyone know that Mr. Softee was in town

If it wasn’t for that familiar jingle

mixed with engine sound.

He’s like a father coming home from work or a distant trip.

The throng coming from every where like happy children

Running to daddy,

who finally comes home.

How they love Mr. Softee,

And don’t mind trading Abrahams and Washingtons,

Especially in mid-summer seasons.
