A flame that flickers...

You said I'm always looking at our past
as if we have no future
and it hurts you to think
I may be stuck there for good
I'm trying to comprehend
the longer the flame burns
the hotter it gets
and not all things are
so quick to burn out
as I too often assume

Once again, I find myself relating to this poem. When me and said ex started to talk and be friends again after we broke up, she kept saying that I needed to stop looking at the past and that the future would be brighter if we weren't dating. She said if we still were then we wouldn't have so bright a future because we both knew that eventually it would all go spiraling down.
I finally started seeing it the way she did. That the future is much brighter now. That I can go on....but I still have that flame...the one that will never go out....
And now I have to live with it...
